Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered into a search tool is sent directly to the outside company operating that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its results. We do not retain or record those search terms on our systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email sent to us may be kept long enough to answer and maintain the related correspondence. We do not disclose the message outside our organization unless the law requires disclosure.
Data We Gather Automatically
Our servers receive routine technical information when a page loads, including:
- Your device's Internet Protocol address
- The browser name and version used for the visit
- Operating system and general device category
- Pages viewed and the time spent on them
- A referring website, when one supplied the visit
- The date and time associated with a page request
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files saved on a device. They and our analytics services help combine visit data, measure page traffic, and identify where sessions end. You may block cookies through browser controls, although doing so can change how some site functions behave.
What We Do With This Data
- Operate, maintain, and improve site performance
- Route a submitted search to the selected outside provider
- Measure which content visitors use
- Diagnose errors and other technical problems
- Display advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
We do not host, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal records. Lewis County content identifies request routes at the sheriff, the local courts, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation's Criminal Justice Information Services Division, and the Tennessee Sex Offender Registry. Visitor information is not compiled into third-party criminal profiles or consumer reports, and this site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search boxes. A partner's privacy policy, retention schedule, and sharing rules govern the information submitted to its tool. We do not control those terms, so review them before sending a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to Lewis County offices, Tennessee agencies, courts, legal resources, and outside search services. Once you leave this site, the destination's privacy terms control. Review those terms before giving the destination personal information.
Some advertising companies may use their own systems to follow activity across websites and select targeted advertisements. We do not operate that tracking.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal data is not sold. Limited information may be available to:
- Outside search providers receiving a query
- Analytics vendors measuring traffic and performance
- Advertising networks serving ads
- Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal demand
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable security practices are used to protect collected information. No internet-connected service can promise perfect security, however, and we cannot guarantee that unauthorized access will never occur.
Users Under 18
This service is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone younger than 18. If we learn that a minor supplied such information, we will delete it.
Your Data Rights
Applicable privacy and consumer-protection laws may provide rights based on where you live. The Tennessee Public Records Act, Tenn. Code Ann. §§ 10-7-501 through 10-7-506, governs access to records held by Tennessee government entities rather than data held under this private policy. Tennessee Supreme Court Rule 34 concerns court records, and Tenn. Code Ann. § 38-6-120 authorizes TBI criminal-history checks. Those official-record laws do not convert our visitor data into a Lewis County or TBI record. Subject to applicable law, you may:
- Request access to personal information we retain about you
- Seek correction of inaccurate retained information
- Ask for deletion where the law permits it
- Object to or opt out of processing when an applicable law provides that choice
Updates to This Policy
We may revise this policy. A revision takes effect when the updated text and effective date are posted here.
